Why Organic ?

All my recipes call to use organic or non GMO ingredients. Here are some of the reasons to eat organically. Organic foods are naturally GMO free. GMO ingredients list.

With the absence of pesticides and fertilizers, plants boost their production of the vitamins and antioxidants that strengthen their resistance to bugs and weeds. 

You can’t expect to fuel your body and achieve optimal health by eating food, laced with toxic chemicals, that your body doesn’t recognize.

Organic farming reduces pollutants in groundwater and creates richer soil that aids plant growth while reducing erosion.

Non organics which are laced with pesticide ,herbicides, fertilizers from synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge, growth hormones and antibiotics.

Organic produce is more expense but one way to become a more informed shopper is to buy locally. Whether it’s at a farmer’s market or actually visiting a farm, you can learn a lot about your food by getting to know the people who produce it. Do not be afraid t ask if they spray their crop.  We really need to know more about where our food comes from and what is in it.

My green apple story: Last year when we put our house on the market our realtor brought some green apples (GMO) for decoration. Luckily we sold relatively quickly but the closing was three months later. The apples remained and looked exactly the same to the end. Great for decor not so good for the gut!!

Food codes on fruits and vegetables and what they mean:

4-digit PLU code starting with 3 or 4 (3xxx or 4xxx) is conventionally grown

5-digit PLU code starting with 9 (9xxxx) is organically grown

5-digit PLU code  starting with 8 (8xxxx)  is genetically modified GMO
